After 30 successful years producing television shows and documentary films, Mary (who prefers to be called Mel) decided it was time to change to a career that would be both personally rewarding and help enrich the lives of under-served children -- a topic near and dear to her heart. She bought her first car in over a decade, got an apartment and is thrilled to be realizing her dream as a first grade elementary school teacher. And while she knows she has a wealth of experience to share with her scholars, Mel knows that the students will be her greatest teachers -- about life in the mid-South and the Memphis community in particular.
